Short biography of Sia:
Australian singer and songwriter, born 18 December 1975 in Adelaide, Australia.
In the early 1990s, Furler started gigging in the Adelaide acid jazz scene and at the age of 17, she joined the jazz-funk band Crisp. The group released two albums: "Word And The Deal" (1996) and "Delerium" (1997). By 1997, Furler had left Crisp and released her debut solo album "OnlySee" as a trip hop artist from an Adelaide garage – which sold 1,200 copies, 1,000 in Adelaide alone. Unlike her later albums, "OnlySee" was released under her full name, instead of the mononym Sia.
In 2000, Furler scored a top 10 hit with her debut single "Taken For Granted". Pairing her unique Australian drawl with the strident strings from Prokofiev's "Romeo & Juliet", the track was championed by Trevor Nelson and had Sia performing live on Jo Whiley's BBC Radio 1 show. Her second album "Healing Is Difficult" arrived to cries of 'the next big R&B thing'. She then added her jazzy slurs to two tracks on Zero 7's "Simple Things" album and became the voice of the year's downtempo soundtrack.
Furler's third album "Colour The Small One" was released in Australia on 19 January 2004 and in Europe later that year. This downtempo album had Furler employ a mixture of acoustic instruments and electronic backing to her material. It was re-released on 10 January 2006 in the US, after the track "Breathe Me" became popular on alternative radio, following its feature as the closing song in the series finale of the HBO drama Six Feet Under.
On 3 April 2007, Furler released a live album, "Lady Croissant", in the US. It featured eight live songs from her April 2006 performance at New York's Bowery Ballroom. It was later released in other countries as well.
Fourth studio album "Some People Have Real Problems" was released in 2008. It spawned the successful single "The Girl You Lost To Cocaine", which was released with charting remixes by [a=StoneBridge] and [a=Sander van Doorn].
In 2010, Furler released her fifth studio album titled "We Are Born". A year later, she was the featured artist on [a=David Guetta]'s global hit "Titanium". Furler also was the featured artist on "Wild Ones" by [a=Flo Rida] and "She Wolf (Falling To Pieces)", also by David Guetta. Those hits resulted in her worldwide breakthrough. Furler's songwriting credits include [a=Christina Aguilera], [a=Rihanna], [a=Ne-Yo], [a=Céline Dion], [a=Beyoncé], [a=Katy Perry], [a=Britney Spears] and [a=Eminem].
Sia has a Mezzo-soprano vocal type.
Vocal Range: 3 Octaves and a semitone B2-B5
